Old stamps received in November 2015.

This envelope was received just a few days ago – actually containing an EBay purchase. The purchase is not part of this blog at all, but the stamps caused us – my wife and I some amazement and amusement. They are just British postal stamps, but they are commemoratives from the past. Let’s take a look at them.

Was Royal Mail fascinated by these stamps as well? They seem to have missed the franking process leaving them looking quite pristine.

The 13p stamp showing snowdrops dates from 1979. They were issued on March 21st and feature spring flowers on four different stamps.

The car stamp was the one that immediately caught the eye for it is a 19½p stamp and the half penny ceased to be used in the UK in 1984. The stamp dates from 1982 and was part of a set about the British motor industry. Each stamp featured an old and current model by a manufacturer and this one has a Model T Ford and a Ford Escort.

The Frederick Delius ‘First Cuckoo’ stamp at 31p was issued in 1985. Again, a set of four stamps commemorated British composers. These were Europa stamps and that meant other European countries also had stamps with composers on them.

I am not a stamp collector but I have enjoyed seeing these.
